    General News

Kenyan Fly Tristar Airlines is a partnership of Bush Air, Rudufu and Buffair. The new airline launched operations on May 15, 2018 with the inaugural flight from Nairobi Wilson to Mombasa Moi airport on board F50 5Y-WFC (20250), still painted in basic Flugfélag colors. Subsequently services from Nairobi to Kisumu and Lodwar via Eldoret were added. In early January 2019 the company suspended all flights in order to “reconfigure operations and better meet customers demands”. Time will show when operations will be resumed.

Helvetic Airways has decided to phase out the remaining five F100's earlier than originally planned. Currently three have already been withdrawn from services to Bratislava, so there are still two active, often flying for Swiss and Lufthansa. The intention is to take the last F100 out of service by June 2019. The F100 fleet is to be replaced temporarily with four leased Embraer ERJ 190 until the ordered ERJ 190-E2 jets are delivered.

The future of InselAir is still at stake. A Curaҫao judge decided that the financial plans presented by InterCaribbean Airways (Turks & Caicos) were not solid enough for obtaining sufficient funding to pay off the creditors. The administrator requested and got postponement until 15th April.

Qantas has taken a 19.9% interest in Alliance Airlines, currently the largest Fokker operator worldwide with 41 aircraft and four more to come later this year. Alliance already performs domestic flights in Australia on behalf of Qantas.

Former Aerocaribe FH-227C XA-TIS (506) was stored for some 17 years on the boneyard of Hermosillo airport. The Mexican Tax Service had impounded the derelict aircraft and finally sold it in November 2018 to the Parque La Ruina recreation and food park in the same city, where it will serve as a memorial of regional aviation history. The all white aircraft, missing tail and outer wings, was towed to its new home on the other side of the city in a nightly transport. Note the logo of the La Ruina park painted on the nose (Entorno Informativo website; Hermosillo, January 24, 2019)

10307 200   AP-AUR Pakistan International Airways. The Friendship overran the runway at Chitral on June 16, 2004 and was damaged beyond repair. In November 2018 it opened as a restaurant just outside the perimeter of Chitral airport in Northern Pakistan. (In the press the aircraft was mentioned as AP-ALN, 10164. That one also crashed, but a careful study of accident pictures shows that the damages are incompatible with the Chitral restaurant Friendship. Moreover, AP-AUR had the incident at Chitral airport, whereas AP-ALN had its accident in Central Pakistan).
20127 050   OO-VLO VLM. After all useful parts had been removed as spares for Amapola Flyg, the fuselage was transported on 080119 by low loader from Deurne airport in Antwerp to the National Police Dog training center in Neerhespen. A video (with comment in Flemish) can be watched at https://atv.be/nieuws/video-laatste-fokker-verlaat-deurne-71493.

Fortunately, there were no victims among the 29 passengers and crew, only a cow in the field perished. The fuselage was later used in the TAM training center in São Paolo for crew training in full TAM livery. After integration of TAM Brazil into LATAM, the center is named Academia Corporativa Latam Airlines and the F100 fuselage was painted in the new corporate colors.
